Sound Bath Sunday

sound bath

I had the pleasure of attending a Sound Bath at Yoga NoHo last night.  It was led by the wonderful Jamie Bechtold Ford.  This was my first time doing anything like this and it was sooooo relaxing!

We laid on the floor, curled up with blankets and bolsters while Jamie played a series of gongs and quartz crystal bowls.  The sounds and vibrations washed over us in waves.  Certain frequencies resonated deep inside of me to the point that I could actually feel my organs.  That was a completely new and odd sensation.  Sure, I’ve felt my organs in the past in terms of pain – upset stomach, menstrual cramps, burning lungs, etc.  But this was altogether different.  It was like at moments, the vibrations were allowing me to F-E-E-L the outlines of my organs from the inside.  I could literally sense where everything was, internally.  I know that doesn’t make much sense, but it’s the best way I can describe it.

The entire bath had a sort of Space Mountain feel to it as the gongs were calibrated to the vibrations of different planets and even an asteroid.  Jamie played for an hour (which felt like 10 minutes) and then we rested in another 15 minutes of silence (which felt like 3).  I left feeling deeply relaxed – much the same as I feel following a really great restorative yoga class.  What a truly lovely way to end the weekend!
